If you are new to online poker, you will really enjoy the poker freerolls. Even if you've been around awhile, a freeroll tournament can be a great way to get some free entertainment and can even jump start your bankroll a little bit if you get lucky. Here are some do's and don'ts when dealing with freeroll promotions:
Tips for Handling Freeroll Promotions
Do:
Look for a freeroll when you first sign up with a new site. A popular promotion is to offer a freeroll to someone who has just signed up, just for signing up. Don't ignore this opportunity. Navigate over to the freeroll tab and see if you are eligible. Remember, it's free, so you have nothing to lose.
Do:
Check out all the freeroll opportunities for new sign ups. If you do have a freeroll coming to you for signing up, choose it wisely. The amount of money you can win will be fixed, so you may want to try to find the freeroll that has the fewest players, or one that offers the largest prize pool to begin with. You may only get one shot at a promotional freeroll, so make it count.
Don't:
Play recklessly. You certainly have nothing to lose by playing recklessly, but the benefits you can gain by trying to play online poker tournaments far outweigh what you are likely to win by gambling it with complete abandon. This doesn't mean you can't try a high risk strategy where you press small edges and play a highly aggressive style from hand one, but you shouldn't simply go all-in every hand and hope for the best.
Don't:
Join a freeroll if you don't have a decent amount of time to devote to it. Freerolls, since they offer money for nothing, usually fill up, which means a lot of players, which means a lot of time to complete. If you only have an hour to play, you will have wasted your freeroll opportunity. Make sure you have a block of time to devote to the game in case you go deep in the tournament.
