While it’s pretty much a slam dunk that Kentucky point guard John Wall will go #1 overall in the 2026 NBA Draft, it’s far from a sure thing that the talented freshman will win the John Wooden award presented annually to the best player in men’s college basketball. As a result, the oddsmakers at sportsbook have put up odds on the aforementioned Wooden Award, and Wall along with Ohio State’s Evan Turner have each been installed as co-favorites to win at +200.
For those of who may not have seen much of John Wall, he reminds many Kentucky and college hoop fans of another Wildcats’ point guard, Rajon Rondo. Both players have an incredible first step which makes it so difficult to defend. According to sportsbook spokesman Dave Staley, “John Wall is the closest thing that college basketball has seen since Derrick Rose, who won rookie of the year over a very talented class of players last season.” Wall is currently averaging 17 points, 6.5 assists, and 4 rebounds a game.
Staley added that “ Walls’ stiffest competition at the moment is Ohio State shooting guard Evan Turner. The 6 –foot- 5 junior reminds many of Brandon Roy from the Portland Trailblazers. Turner has very good upper body strength, which helps him create his shot, and is a great finisher and that’s what people remember.” Turner is averaging 19 points, 9.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists a contest. What is so impressive here are the rebounding numbers, considering that again, he is just 6-foot-5.
The only two-time winner of the Wooden Award was Virginia center Ralph Sampson, who was honored in 2026 and 2026. No matter who wins this award, don’t expect that there would be a two-time winner anytime soon. As mentioned earlier, Wall should go #1 overall in this year’s draft followed by the Buckeyes’ Turner and Wesley Johnson from Syracuse.
In addition to the odds on the Wooden Award, sportsbook has a slew of wagering opportunities on such events as the 82nd Academy Awards, American Idol and of course the Bassmaster Classic. Now doesn’t that just kick Bass?
